Adorned in wrappings,
Decorating the room,
Covered in dust,
A picture of gloom.

Filled with treasures,
Priceless yet free,
Riches waiting,
Allah has sent this key.

But man’s busy,
Seeking goals so cheap,
Rewards ignored,
That he could reap.

Ritualistic conduct,
Lacking spiritual bond,
Shallow worship,
He’d still respond.

Reciting the Book,
Questioning its commands,
Challenging them logically.

Believing in parts,
While leaving some,
Heart turned away,
And mind so numb.

Using Al Quran,
For amulets and thread,
Or decorating a wall,
A way to save their dead?

Reciting the Message,
Only in Ramadan,
Oh son of Adam,
Where’s your iman?

Reading and rereading,
Your best friend’s letter,
Ignorant to Rabb’s message,
But, that doesn’t matter.

Incurring destruction,
And loss upon loss,
Whose help will you seek?
When your Creator is cross.

‘What happened to the ilm,
That I had given you?’
‘I was busy seeking dunia,
I had no time for you.’
And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? (Surah Najm: 17)
